Debt Help

Wigan Deanery Trust's partnership with national charity Christians Against Poverty is an important aspect of our Lifted work that seeks justice, meets need, lifts people and serves others. The work of Christians Against Poverty (CAP) in many areas has resulted in the privilege of seeing people discover hope as they begin to work with CAP and their local church. Thousands of lives have been positively impacted through the powerful combination of practical help, restorative church communities and Jesus’ love.

Our CAP debt centre supports individuals and families whose finances are adversely affected through the increased cost of living, job loss, mental health, bereavement or other factors often beyond clients’ control. To date we have helped clients to be free of £133,000 of debt. The centre is run by the debt centre manager and debt coach Christiane Cook and includes trained team of volunteer befrienders to support service users.

Referrals into the service come from a variety of sources such as Wigan Borough Council, pantries or social prescribers as well as self-referrals from clients. For Debt advice please call 0800 3280006.

Please do not hesitate to contact CAP and get the help you need. There is also a lot of information on the CAP website: capuk.org.

If you are interested in getting involved as a volunteer or offer financial support to continue the support, please contact Christiane on christianecook@capuk.org or 07479 707309.
